You have just been contacted by a seemingly wonderful employer for an interview! Of course you sure want to make the best impression to the employers. One important thing, you don’t want to fail your interview, after all it is one step nearer to your dream job. What should you do? Interview can be a little scary, but with the proper preparation, you will do much better.

Tip # 1: Research the company

As a staffing service company, we often process interview for our clients. Several questions below are our first and foremost:

  • What do you know about our (client) company?
  • Why do you want to work here (at our client company)?

Now that we give you our secret favorite question, it is your part to do a little homework. Knowing as much as possible about the company ‘s performance, or company’s future plan can make the interview more interactive. It also shows the interviewers that you are interested in their company and you are willing to learn more information to do your best for your job.
So how can you find more information about the company you are going to work for? Company’s website is the most useful source, after all, it’s their company’s website, it’s their information, it’s must be right. Google it, you will never know what Google hold for you. Have your facts ready!

Tip # 2: Practice

Now that you have your facts, what next? Have you ever heard “practice make perfect?” Yeah! It is the time to do that --Rehearsing! Pretend that you are in the interview, try to answer some general questions, write down the answers, if it help to make your presentation more smoothly. If you have a video recorder, record yourself, replay it and you will see some mistakes that you never know you have. Try to correct those mistakes. Yes, make it perfect.

Tip # 3: Interview Day

Now come the big day! You may want to check out our Dress for Interview tip.
It is very important to be on time for the interview. Put yourself in the employer’s position, would you hire someone who might come late for his or her work? Probably not! Therefore, be on time; come about ten to fifteen minutes early. Doing that will give you ahead time to prepare (in case you need to find out where the interview’s place will be). Remember to bring some extra copies of your resume and list of references

Tip # 4: During the interview

  • Make eye contact: Try your best to make eyes contact, you need to show the interviewers that you want the job with your interest. In addition, the interviewers might think you are lying if you look somewhere else while you talk.
  • Be Positive: Don’t be negative about your past employers.
  • Prepare yourself with some job experiences that are related to your strength. Employers tend to think that a good performance in the past is the predictor of future performance.
  • Try to relate your answers to the interviews or his or her company, especially to the position that you are applying for. After all, most employers want to know what will they get from you if they hire you.
  • “Do you have any question?” This is the question we used to ask at the end of the interview. You don’t want to say “no”. Trust me on this. Show the interviewers that you are interested in the company and the job you are applying for, encourage the interviewer to share information about his or her company, make up some questions if you need to. Some example questions can be: “Why is this position open?” “What is my freedom in performing my responsibilities, deadlines?” “What is the factor to measure success for this position?”
